Their favorite way to do it is by accusing Dems of the very crimes they are committing themselves.
I bring up this well-known principle because I clicked on a link from my own website (the link phrase says, "If you are looking for twisted souls willing to do anything to gain or hold onto power, try here.") that goes to www.gop.com.
Tonight, that link takes you to a front page that includes a political cartoon of Hillary Clinton listening to tape recordings of "political opponents" while running the FISA bill through a shredder. The cartoon links to a story in the Washington Times quoting a hit-book (Her Way: The Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton) claiming the Clintons listened to opponents' cell phone calls when Bill was governor of Arkansas!
More below the fold.
Now, I'm no big fan of Hillary's. I'm a Gore Geek, anxiously working and actively praying that he'll run. Nonetheless, while I'll vote for her if I have to, the reason I'm here defending her tonight is that it strikes me that this is a very deliberate action. Why post a dumb cartoon on their national HQ website? Because it's a very clever way to deflect attention from the suggestions that I and others here have made that the GOP-run White House is quite literally blackmailing any wandering Repubs into sticking by the Prez and the Dems into caving at every opportunity.
Where did they get their useful dirt? Why, from all that unauthorized, illegal, and unconstitutional wiretapping and email-mining they've been doing since before 9/11. It's really just an update of Nixson's COINTELPRO operation, with better technology.
Maybe our suspicions are more than just paranoia, if the Thugs have to dredge up ancient history to deflect those suspicions by accusing the Dems of exactly what we think they are doing themselves.
